This is the Sankuty Head Light lighthouse on Nantucket Island off the coast of Massachusetts . It was built in 1850 and has been in operation ever since. More history about the lighthouse can be found here. I find this lighthouse absolutely adorable! The red stripe is so classically nautical to me... It even inspired me to paint!
Yes, I painted that and I am quite proud of it (Give me a break, I've taken exactly one painting class my entire life). The lighthouse is just so classic. It's what I think of when I think of a lighthouse. I have personally never visited the island, though I should considering I go to school in Boston! A friend of mine owns a house on the island, so I mooched off of their pictures to gain a sense of what was there. It seems like a great place to visit!
